What Easter actually is
Easter is a holiday because of a claim.
Christians believe that Jesus of Nazareth rose bodily from the dead on the third day after being crucified. Jesus didn’t rise only spiritually or metaphorically. Jesus’ dead body actually rose from the grave by the power of God, and He lives now forever. What’s more, He opened the door to life after death for all who believe in Him!
That claim is what the first Christians staked their lives on. It's what the New Testament was written about (and, it turns out, it’s what the entire Old Testament is about, too!).
We actually celebrate this claim every Sunday, but we especially celebrate it on Easter.
At St. Peter's Lutheran Church, we believe that we are forgiven and made right with God not by what we do, but by what Jesus has done. Easter is where that promise is proven.
You’re invited!
Easter Sunday is the most attended Sunday of the year at most churches, and St. Peter's is no different. This is because people who have stayed away, people who are searching, people who aren't sure what they believe — they show up at Easter.
If that's you, I'm glad you're here. You won't be called out, singled out, or pressured. You'll celebrate the good news that the Christian faith has been built on for two thousand years: that Jesus died and rose again, and that this changes everything.

What should I wear?
Whatever you're comfortable in. You might prefer to dress up, but there’s no dress code here.
How long is the service?
Our services run about 60-75 minutes.
What about my kids?
Children are welcome in every service!
If you do need to step out, the church basement shows the service in real-time on a large TV, and there’s room to get the wiggles out.
Whenever you’re ready, feel free to rejoin the service in the sanctuary.
Do I have to do anything?
No. You can sit, observe, and leave. Communion is offered at Holy Thursday and the Easter Divine Service. If you're a member of another LCMS church, you’re welcome to celebrate Communion with us. If you’re unsure of what you believe about Communion, you’re welcome to come forward for a blessing instead.
Will I be asked to give money?
An offering is received during the service. You're under no obligation to participate. We won't make it weird.
Can I watch services online if I can’t attend in person?
Absolutely! If for any reason you can’t make our in-person service, you can always watch it live on Facebook or watch it later on our YouTube channel.
St. Peter's Lutheran Church holds Easter services and Holy Week services each spring in Gibbon, Minnesota. Our Holy Week schedule includes Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and the Easter Vigil, all at 7:00 PM. Easter Sunday includes a Youth Sunrise Service at 7:00 AM, Easter Breakfast at 8:00 AM, and a full Easter Divine Service with Holy Communion at 10:00 AM.
We serve the communities of Gibbon, Winthrop, Fairfax, Hector, Buffalo Lake, and the surrounding Sibley and Renville County areas.
St. Peter's Lutheran Church is a congregation of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS). Easter services near Gibbon, MN are open to all visitors and guests.
